Maria Duval - Society, Religion, Spirituality and Meditation

Society, Religion, Spirituality and Meditation
Meditation is widely used in the western world today. As people hear of the benefits of meditation it has travelled the world several times over under various different names. One thing that we have realised though is that countries like India, China and Japan have always been at the forefront of meditation. Most of the new enlightenment techniques that we are just learning now started in Asia, and often centuries ago. As you can imagine though there are a lot of differences between how people live in Asia and how we live in the West today. Our upbringings are different, our lifestyles are different, and the way we learn and understand is totally alien to the people of Asia. This means that the way our countries understand and accept meditation is also slightly different.

In Asia students of meditation learn the concepts by way of parables or stories. In the West we encourage critical thought. We teach our children how to think with rational, logical minds. Telling stories to explain a thought doesn't work. We require facts and scientific data. We lose a lot of the meaning behind meditation because of this, and limit ourselves to the depths that we can reach. There is a meditation society in most countries now. This is often the best place to find meditation courses and seminars local to your region.

Religion

Religion has also adapted to encompass meditation practices into it's daily programme. You can now find meditation exercises adopted to suit Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and many other religions. Some people are still finding resistance using meditation within their specific Church or Temple. While meditation has been accepted by most religions some people are finding it slow to trickle down to the people at the bottom. If you would like to incorporate meditation into your religious practices and are finding it difficult to get information from your local religious centre there are lots of examples and instructions online to show you the best ways to use meditation for your own religious purposes.

Spirituality

Spirituality and the new age movement was one of the first groups of people in the west to adopt and accept meditation practices into their way of life. Spirituality differs from religion in that spiritualists aim to reach a level of happiness in their lives. Religion tends to stick to a set of rules, where as spiritualists will try various different methods to find the path that is right for them. It is a very personal experience and they can use meditation to help them along the path that they have chosen.

It really doesn't matter why you come to meditation. It is such a simple technique to master that you can adapt it to almost any situation.

howtogetwhatyouwant
I had scheduled a morning to write. I had my notes out on the desk, and the computer booted up. Then I went outside to have coffee on the patio, then puttered around in the kitchen, played with the dog, and mailed a letter. I just couldn t get my brain to wake up and go to work. For some people Brain Freeze (masquerading as procrastination) is habitual, and can have damaging effects. It s easy to do things we want to do, but the things we find difficult or unpleasant are what we put off. In my case, it wasn t that I didn t want to write, or that I found writing difficult or unpleasant. I just found it hard to get started. There were so many more interesting ways to use the luxury of that quiet morning. Simply, procrastination is often just a habit of making the wrong choices. It s choosing to take a nap instead of mowing the lawn It s opting to socialize with a co-worker instead of working on a project. It s cleaning off your desk instead of getting prepared for a meeting. It s checking out who s on The Today Show instead of writing an article. Now there s nothing inherently wrong with any of these choices. As an adult you have the luxury of choosing how you behave, and choosing your own responsibilities. And we all have responsibilities that we don t particularly care for. But if you allow Brain Freeze to make choices that aren t good for you, or that we don t really want to make, then it s time to put Brain Freeze on a leash. Just Do It may be a great marketing slogan, but in real life we often need a little bit more to work with. To conquer Brain Freeze, you will need to change the behavior that works against you achieving the desired results. Remember that you are changing a habit, and it will feel uncomfortable and unnatural at first. But with practice, you can teach Brain Freeze that it is not welcome in your life. Here are three ways to do this. 1. When you recognize a particular task is difficult for you and that you continually put it off until the last minute, try designing a system to handle it, instead of just putting out the fire when it becomes a problem. For example, if you re always running around late in the morning trying to find the kids homework and your keys and gym clothes, consider setting up a basket or backpack for each member of the family to collect things they need to get out the door. If you re always late paying bills, consider setting them up on automatic withdrawal. You have set up a system, not just reacted to a singular problem. 2. Determine if Brain Freeze is signaling you that you have made a mistake in your choice. If you find it difficult to go to work in the morning, perhaps you are in the wrong job. If you find that you don t want to go home in the evening after work, it may be that you are living in a place that is not healthy for you. Don t continue a mistake. Admit the mistake to yourself first and others (if necessary), and make the necessary arrangements to make it right. One of my clients was a senior in college receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was having difficulty finishing projects, doing homework, studying for tests. His parents believed that he was afraid to go out into the real world . But as we talked, it became apparent that he had never wanted to be an engineer and had allowed others to make those choices for him. He was spending all his time working in a restaurant where they were teaching him how to cook. As soon as he recognized that he had made a mistake, he was able to tell his parents how he really felt, make the change to get the training to be a chef. 3. We all have things we re good at and things we prefer to do, and Brain Freeze can also signal that it is task that you really don t like to do. Ask first, does it have to be done at all, and second, does it have to be done by you. Consider delegating the task to someone who would enjoy it, so that you can concentrate on things that you would devote more creativity and energy to. In my particular case, I love to mow grass and my husband hates it. I despise vacuuming, and I don t do a very good job of it (in rebellion, I suppose). My husband doesn t mind it, and always does a much more thorough job than I do. Easy tradeoff. Finally, REWARD yourself for a job well done. This is very important and a step that a lot of people ignore. A reward can come in any form you choose, from a simple affirmation to yourself, to buying yourself a treat. Realize that the ultimate reward for taming Brain Freeze is that by being in control of what you do, and finding ways to do it efficiently, you have given yourself more time to enjoy your life. -

(Jaipur Rugs Foundation) for Research & Development of the carpet industry (the design, color, texture, weaver’s training and skill up gradation) and to make it compatible with the International Market. Jaipur rugs Foundation is an initiative of Jaipur Rugs Company Pvt. Ltd. with the following aims in mind:-

2) Promotion of new designs as per the International demand so as to bring more work to the artisans which in turns brings more income and prosperity.
3) Uplift the social status of the artisans by aiding them raising their standard of living through carpet weaving which in turn causes the economic growth of the industry.
4) Promotion of research for new technology to bring it closer to international market due to its high demanding nature.
5) Welfare Schemes through Microfinance which help the artisans get motivated for becoming economically sound and able to hold assets like their own looms.
6) Spreading and nurturing the art of carpet weaving for those who are too poor to hold any agricultural holding but can do work for living. These people will find their living through carpet weaving, a job with satisfaction.
7) Refining and updating the skills of the artisans enabling them to get more income regarding the improved quality of their work
The Difference Almost all NGO do little or more the same but his mindset was clearly different, He promoted the “Extended Family Concept” in which the artisans as not looked upon as mere laborers; rather as family members. Each and every artisan who is associated with him is considered a family member and hence given equal importance like any other member of family. This strengthens the bond between his thought and the reality enabling him to have a closer and more deliberate relation. This also provides the sense of dignity to the artisans who increase their moral and therefore their productivity which in turns brings prosperity to their homes and of course in our Family.

Meditation The Easy Way To Relieve Stress
Have you ever been so stressed out from work, kids, relationships or the other millions of things that you just want to pull your hair out? I know you have, we all have. When we are upset by someone at work or in society, danger signals are sent to our brain and our heart starts beating faster and our blood pressure rises. However, we don’t usually run away and we usually don’t start fighting physically. We hold it all in, perhaps showing a smile on the outside. If this is kept up all day, the stress builds and if it continues over a long time it can damage our heart. There is a very easy, relaxing solution to relieve the pressures of modern day life, and it has been there the whole time, its meditation. Many people all around the world use different techniques to meditate but the end result is very similar - “Relaxation”. One of the most popular ways is by listening to meditation cds. You may be thinking you just don’t have time to meditate, but trust me if you just start making a few minutes a day to lock yourself away and find the peace within yourself it will be well worth its weight in gold. If you just start out meditating for a few minutes at a time and stick with it you will find that it is so enjoyable and relaxing you will find it is hard to pull yourself away from it. You’ll soon find that you look forward to grabbing your favorite meditation cd and sitting back to seek peace and harmony. To practice meditation we don’t need to follow a particular religion; anybody can meditate, the only requirement is our conscious aspiration to silence the thoughts of the mind. In fact, one of the important aspects of meditation is that it is a form of sense withdrawal. When you become adept at this technique it relieves stress and is just as effective as going away to the top of a forested mountain or sitting alone on a sandy beach. You’ll find that many meditation cds will take you away to beautiful special places in your mind…more beautiful than you can imagine without experiencing it yourself. There are many positive results that you will get from meditating, besides just a relaxation tool. If you can teach yourself to focus on goals you would like to achieve or something you would like to improve about yourself you will find many answers to a great number of things in the silence of meditation. For thousands of years people have been using this method to obtain the things that they want and the things that they dream of. Many great leaders in history and very successful people have been using meditation to do their most productive thinking and soul searching. Some say there is no connection to the universal energy like the one you will find when develop the skills of a very deep relaxing meditation. Walking meditation is also becoming more popular these days because you can get both mental and physical benefits and some say it is more effective as it is easier for most people to be more intense and more easily aware of their bodies while walking, as compared to sitting. It is truly amazing some of the story’s I have heard about people that have overcome illness and many other disorders with simple meditation. A real possibility of a compassion and wisdom-based world exists, replacing the fear-based world that we find ourselves living in, but it has to begin with each of us taking the time to understand our “selves.” It is one thing to talk about peace and love but it is only when we meditate that we can experience these qualities as a living reality. Our ability to meditate is not some special skill out of human reach. Every human being looking for peace in life should practice meditation and experience how it will relieve mental stress and suffering. Break a Bad Habit and Make a New Friend: YOU
There comes a time in everyone’s life when they decide changes must be made. Usually it means breaking a bad habit built up over the years. No matter what the bad habit, the time for change has come and the need to make life changing corrections must be faced.

Making the decision to correct the bad habit is the first major step. In Alcoholics Anonymous the first step is admitting you have a problem. That step applies to everyone who has decided to make a change in their life by improving their lifestyle, self-image or health. Before one can start down the self-improvement road one must first admit what the problem is.

The next step is deciding how to make the necessary changes to break habits and improve their life. Breaking a bad habit is no easy task. Smokers are often told that being addicted to nicotine is as bad as heroin. Even knowing this, every year thousands take the steps needed to stop one of the worst habit-forming addictions our of day. They are ready to face the fact that their bad habit is hurting them and they know that their decision will lead them on a journey of self-improvement that will add years to their life.

People addicted to alcohol are another group who take the journey to self-improvement. Their journey is one that is very welcomed by friends, co-workers and family members who for years have had to endure the effects that this addiction has had on their lives. In many cases the alcoholic has the support of many to help them on their journey of self-improvement.

In recent years one of the most publicized self-improvement movements has been for weight loss. The airwaves are full of advertisements for products to help people lose weight. There are even reality TV shows portraying the struggles that overweight people go through and the self-confidence they gain as the weight drops off.

Although the challenges are great for some of these addictions, the benefits are life-changing for all. The smoker has lowered their risk of cancer; the alcoholic sees life as a sober person and regains the love and respect of family and friends. The life change that weight loss gives is by far the most dramatic. Not only do they feel better and look better; they receive constant feedback from people who can see the physical differences from their self-improvement program.

To start a self-improvement program is easy. Following through and sticking with it is the hard part. There will be times of setbacks, but it’s easy enough to pick yourself up and start again. For the smoker who lasts three months, then has a setback, knows what they did accomplish that and the next time may be able to go further. The dieter can also fall off the wagon without too much damage done before they start back on the road to break their eating habits.

It simply takes making a decision to start, making a plan to help break your bad habits and then following through. Breaking a bad habit often requires the help of a support network and many get much further when they have others to help them.

The end result is well worth the struggle. All who have habit-forming problems and who have decided to make changes in their lifestyle for the better will receive positive feedback The most important feedback they get, after their doctors, is the feedback they give themselves.

Your Beautiful Mind
What if you could think whatever you want whenever you want? What if you felt joy, love and peace all the time, or even just most of the time? Can you think of some old feeling that you would rather not be carrying around, or a behavior that just doesn't serve you anymore and you would like to let it go? Now is the time. Your mind thinks as it was trained to. Over the years you have downloaded from your senses various thoughts, feelings, opinions and beliefs that rule over your life. Some of them may be quite helpful to you while others may be keeping you from realizing your full potential, or just being happy and prosperous. You can consciously decide how you want your brain to work, and if there is something in your mind you no longer want to think you can now change it. Your own mind may not believe this, and may even fear the idea, but if you would like to change what goes on in your mind and body the first step is in realizing that you can:absolutely. The second step in this process is in realizing what your thoughts and feelings are and how they are affecting your life. What thoughts serve you and which ones don't? The next step is to consciously decide in what ways you want to think and which ways you don't. The clearer your mind is as to what you want it to think, the easier it is for your mind to think it. Once you have gained clarity as to what you want your mind to think it is simply a matter of programming your mind to think that way. This is where I can help you. Just like learning a language, as you repeat ideas and feelings they become ingrained into the neuro-physiology of your brain and become adopted into your own personality and behavior. Thought-forms can be created in your mind and firmly established so your mind becomes the perfect servant to your own consciousness. Where there was negative you create positive, where there is fear you create courage and strength, where there is discord you create harmony. Look how enslaved most people are to their mental and emotional conditioning. There is absolutely no reason to stay in a contracted mental or emotional state, you can start shifting and reprogramming your mind once you decide to. This choice is the power that makes it happen. Your spirit is guiding you to make those choices, just as it guided you to be reading these words. I will be conducting a series of three one hour teleconferences this month called The Enlightened Mind Series (www.selfawareness.com/YourEnlightenedMindCDSet.html). During these teleconferences I will guide you into deep states to access your subconscious and provide you a series of templates for your mind to consider and adopt if you choose. Emotionally, physically and mentally let us create those thoughts and feelings that bring greater prosperity, happiness and peace into your life and to those in your life. Why settle for anything else? From the heart, Steven S. Sadleir "Who decides what state you're going to be in?"

Steven S. Sadleir is the Director of the Self Awareness Institute and is recognized as a Shaktipat Master in two lineages. He has developed powerful distance learning programs for people of all cultures and faiths, trained thousands of people from all over the world, and welcomes all of you who are ready for full Self-Realization. Meditation Exercise - Breath Meditation
Breath Meditation

Your breathing is one of the easiest things to concentrate on during meditation. It is always there providing a solid life force whether you are aware of it or not. During this meditation technique we are going to focus solely on the breathing. This is a great way to relax and as a little side benefit you become more aware of how your body functions and hopefully have a little more respect and gratitude for the amazing job your body does..

Ok lets start by finding a comfortable, calm place to meditate. If you can change the lighting set it to a nice, low, unobtrusive level. Sit in a position where you feel comfortable and relaxed. Close your eyes and rest your hands in your lap.

Now I'd like you to bring your attention to your breath. Concentrate on the rhythm of your breathing. Don't try to force it, just let it come naturally. Feel the air as it moves in and out of your body. When you feel nice and relaxed I'd like you to direct your attention to your nose. Concentrate on this spot for a few minutes, feel the movements of the air as it passes through your nose. Think about the sensations it makes. Does it feel cool? Does it tickle slightly? Take note of everything you feel and be aware of the air passing through your nose at that exact moment.

Now I want you to direct your attention to other parts of your body. Move your attention down to your throat. Concentrate on this area, does your throat move when you breath? Can you feel the cold air pass over your throat? Think about any sensations that you feel and just be aware of how the air feels as it moves through your body, nourishing all your organs and keeping you strong and healthy.

Concentrate on your throat for a few minutes then move down to your chest. Become aware of your chest rising and falling with each steady breath. How does this feel? Is it calm and relaxing? Does your chest move more than you expected it to? Or is your breathing more shallow? Feel the air as it enters your lungs. Is there any movements or vibrations in your chest that you weren't expecting? Continue to concentrate in this area for a few more minutes.

Now I'd like you to move onto your solar plexus, or navel area. How does your breathing effect this area? Perhaps there is a lot of movement down here, or there may be no movement at all. It's ok if there's no movement, just take a note of this. Concentrate on this area for a few minutes then move on.

Repeat this process for every area in the body that you have time for. You can concentrate on any area of the body at all from your hands to your feet. Try your back or shoulders, does your shoulders move when you breath? How about your thighs, can you feel any movement there? Move around each area in turn concentrating slowly on that particular area for several minutes. Think about the muscles in that area. Is your breathing helping to relax those muscles? If you feel tense simply release that muscle and let it relax.

Once you have covered all the area's that you want to cover bring your attention back to your chest. Concentrate once more on the rising and falling of your chest as the air enters and leaves your lungs. Then slowly begin to release your concentration. Begin to see your body as a single unit, notice how the air travels the entire length of your body and is not specific to just one part. Feel the air as it enters your body then travels to all the muscles and all the organs within your body.Relax and enjoy this feeling for a while. Then when you feel comfortable slowly bring yourself out of meditation and enjoy the rest of your day.

7 Key Goal Setting Steps
What are the goal setting steps outlined here going to do for you? "If you do not have a plan for your life, someone else has a plan for you."-- Jim Rohn You want to have plan of action for your life. One of the most effective ways to do that is to activate the goal setting gene in your body. The plan of action will get your momentum started if you follow these goal setting steps. It may sound simple. However, in order to achieve your desired result, you need a roadmap and do a little every day to accomplish your goal. 1. Clearly define your goal. Think of goal setting step as marking a map to your destination. If you don't start by deciding where you are going, then you are what Zig Zigglar calls "a wandering generality". The act of making a precise decision solidifies your resolve. 2. Decide what you are willing to do or give to achieve your goal. Not what you wish you could do, but what you intend to do. It may be time, money or giving up immediate pleasure for long term rewards. When you look at the goal, decide how valuable it is to you and what you're willing to sacrifice for it. 3. Where are you in relation to your goal? Again, if you use a map to get to your destination, you have to know where you're starting point is. Be very honest with yourself. Sometimes looking yourself in the mirror and admitting to what really needs to change may be the toughest thing you ever do. 4. What's been stopping you? Become clear of your barriers and make peace with them. Either you go into it full force, or you change your expectations. The learning process to success may be one of the reasons that this goal is not what you really want. There will be lessons, sometimes tough ones. Reevaluate the goal if this is the case. If you want more money for your family and believe that the price you must pay is giving up time for them, reconsider your belief. 5. What steps do you need to take to get to the goal? Here's the map. You know where you are, you know where you're going and now you must map the route there. Remember, there's a lot of different ways to get to from point A to point B. Some just take longer than others. Choose the path that fits you. If you want to fly to Chicago there's a higher price but it's quicker than walking. If you walk to Chicago it's tougher and slower but you see more interesting sights along the road. 6. Break down the goal into small palatable steps you can accomplish daily. This is called "chunking". Create something you do each day to accomplish the goal. These small goal-setting steps add up and one day, you'll look back and see how much you've accomplished with a little forward movement every day. 7. Have a system to track your accomplishments. You can keep it as simple as you want or as complicated as they get. Don't get hung up on the details. Whatever you do, ask yourself, "how is this moving me closer to my goal"? One very simple way is to track your goal with a physical list. Some people think that they'll simply keep it in their head, but unless you keep the list in front of your face, you replace it with other daily tasks. Almost magically, the more you focus on something the more you achieve it. This works both positively and negatively. If you focus on failure, sure enough that goal comes true also. Put your goal list up in several rooms and make a check mark on it when you accomplish a step. Make it the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night. Each journey begins with the first step. Turn your dream into a goal and ultimately, a reality. Use these goal-setting steps to help you defining exactly what you want!

Essence And Manifestation
Essence is the totality of who you are - the one - just as it is right here right now. Immutable; changeless; timeless; spaceless; depthless; completely independent of all arisings; block of rocklike solidity; infinite darkness; indescribable - none of these descriptions come anywhere near to what it is like - they fall abysmally short of the mark, and your interpretations of these descriptions does not even come close to these "pointers". There is no possibility whatsoever of being told of how exquisitely rich this one is, that who you are is. You are going to have to experience this for yourself. You are going to have to travel the "journey of self discovery" yourself. You can be this essence because who you are is this essence. It is the "motion of seeing" that is flowing through your very eyes right now. This "motion of aliveness" is the "central point" of itself - essence - writing itself out into its play of manifestation through the mindbody that you find yourself driving around through, day in and day out. Of course, this one is all things everywhere. Without it - who you are - there would not be any manifestation. It is the fullness of nothingness that gives life to all. There is no "gradual" about this essence. It is and it is right here right now. It is complete - changeless. It is not a growing thing. It is not unfolding. It is finished - it did not begin and nor will it end. It is - isness ising. There is no "one" in the driver's seat. You cannot compete for that position because it does not exist. Duality does not exist in this essence. Everything is this one. All creatures, great and small, are this one. All humans are this one. Not only it is who you are, it is also who everyone is. Manifestation is the ground of duality. It is where polar opposites play themselves out, where variance has such "scope," variation. Manifestation was born and it will die. Accordingly, all things within manifestation - all minds, all bodies, all sensations, all emotions, all "heavens and hells", all visions, all feelings, all "toys", all arisings, all subtleties, all grossness, all creations, all worlds, all celestial beings, all human beings, all "shmee" beings, - will die. They were born, they live for a time and they die. Your mindbody - this vehicle that you drive around through - is a part of manifestation. It is an arising that was born and will die. It is not who you are Until you come to realize who you already are you are going to believe yourself to be who you think you are which is just a part of manifestation - not who you are. Who you are is the essence that is flowing through and sustaining this manifest existence - this is who you are. You are not your mind even though you cannot conceive of how you could not be your mind. You may well believe that you are not your mind because of concepts that you have come across about how you are not your mind. But these concepts have not relieved you of the bondage, entrapment, estrangement and imprisonment of this mind that you take to be your "guiding light" in life. This mind is part of manifestation. Who you are is not. Concepts are of this mind - manifestation - and cannot deliver you of who you are, which is beyond not only of this mind but beyond all manifestation - beyond beyondness. Manifestation is the playground of love. Love coming to know itself from within its own dance.
