Maria Duval - Tapping into the Science of Getting Rich

Tapping into the Science of Getting Rich
Did you know that it is possible, in essence, to think your way rich? That there is a certain mindset shared by successful, wealthy people, and that understanding and using that mindset can help you bring riches into your life?

It sounds a little farfetched, but in fact these ideas have been around since the early 1900s, when Wallace D. Wattles wrote the book "The Science of Getting Rich," which is still held up today as an example of mind science, or using the power of the mind to manifest what you want in life.

Wattles wrote that success is not about living in a particular place, being from a certain background, or even having luck. Instead all successful people think in a certain way that allows goodness, success and money to come into their lives.

The way he described this right way of thinking was that you must have a "clear and definite idea of what you want." He said "unformed longings and vague desires" would not bring you want you want, instead you must be really clear on exactly what you desire down to the last detail.

It's not enough, he said, to want money or a new house or a new car. You have to want a million dollars, a three-story beach house on the Carolina coast with hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances, or a bright red Hummer with all the bells and whistles.

He explained that using the science of getting rich or mental science to attract anything into your life is like sending a telegram (today we might say like sending an e-mail): you don't just send all the letters of the alphabet and hope that the recipient can decipher your message.

In the same way you can't just ask for wealth, comfort or happiness from the great telegram receiver and expect to get exactly what you want. Instead you must give a detailed account of what it is you desire, whether that's by forming a mental picture, writing down what you want or even collecting pictures of the ideal home, car, relationship, or whatever else it is that you are looking for.

Having a clear vision, though, is only part of the battle. You also have to have unwavering faith that the thing you desire most can be yours. Wattles wrote that you should be able to believe that the thing you want is already yours. You should be able to imagine yourself living in the house, driving the car or spending the money, vividly seeing that future life that you are building with the power of your intention.

It takes some practice to have both that clear vision and unshakable faith, but once you learn the secrets you can literally have anything you want just by visualizing, asking and believing.

How to Rise Up after a Fall
How do you rise up after a fall? You know how easy it can be to trip and fall. Once you're down, it's not always easy to scramble to your feet or grab an extended hand to rise again. An emotional or spiritual fall can be just as sudden and painful as a physical one. "The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down." (Ps. 145:14) What caused you to fall? Maybe it was insecurity, fear or loneliness? You may feel that you just cannot rise up from under the sheer weight of despair. Have you been lugging a heavy burden for a long time, and tried over and over again to lift it off your back, only to fall down again and again? When you fall, negative, defeatist thoughts tend to come rushing in, don't they? Do you hear yourself saying that it's no use, you're no good, or why bother? Who told you that you would never amount to anything? Who planted those seeds in your head? No matter what others have said to you or about you, you have no right to listen to them. Yes; that's right! If you're a child of the Most High God, then you are very, very special. People may have done or said things to put you down, but God says that he has a future for you. Do not listen to others or your own negative thoughts. Instead, find out what God has to say about you and speak His Promises for you into your life. God's Word says that no matter what has caused you to fall, "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Yes; you are here for a purpose! He knew you before the foundation of the world, and has made you to be conformed to the image of His Son, whom He delivered up for you! (Rom. 8: 28-29; 32) If God gave you His very best; would He then not also want you to have the very best? God is not distant. If you know Him, He is living inside of you! "In him we live, and move, and have our being." (Acts.17:28) However, you cannot always be in perfect step with God. David found that out. He fell numerous times, even though he was anointed to be King over Israel and had a close walk with Him. Throughout the Psalms we find him crying out to the Lord to deliver him from the power of his enemies. In Psalm 142 he cries out loud that his spirit is overwhelmed, there is no one to help him, and that he feels as if his soul is in prison. David was depressed big time and had almost given up all hope. But by the time he finished telling the Lord about his problems, he ends up saying, in today's terminology, "Listen to me, Lord, you are my protection and all that I need. I've been doing it my way and look where it has got me. You fix it for me, and I will give you all the praise; I know without a doubt that you will send upright people to help me because I know that it's your nature to always give more than I can even think or ask!" Oh David knew God so well! Yes, he had allowed himself to stray away and do his own thing, but in his distress he knew what to do. Allow his experience to be a valuable lesson to you. What worked for him will work for you! So, how do you rise from your fall? Cry out loud to God, and tell Him all your troubles. He's your Daddy; He's there for you and wants you to tell him " even though He already knows what you're going through. Then speak the Word of God to Him, reminding Him that you know His promises for you. You can find a verse that applies to your situation and fill in your name. For example, you can paraphrase Jer. 29:11: "For I know the thoughts You think about me, Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give me an expected end." In the process of talking to Him and meditating on His Word, your faith will be stimulated and, like David, you will feel the assurance and peace that God will come through speedily and powerfully. Remember always that: in all things you are more than conquerors through him that loved you! (Rom. 8:37)

Help Yourself to a Better Life
The self-help industry has always been plagued by a bad reputation of being filled with hucksters who only care about making a fast buck and who aren't really concerned with actually helping other people. The products and services offered by self-styled gurus are often thought of as the next generation of the snake oil salesman, who'll be off to the next town with your money before you realize you've been taken with a lot of false promises.

It's easy for unscrupulous people to prey on those who feel hopeless and out of control. A snazzy sales page suggesting that a product is the solution to a reader's problems will draw people in, and the writer may not care if their book or product really helps people, as long as they get the sale.

Behavior like this can give the whole industry a bad name, but the truth is there are a lot of people out there who really are dedicated to helping people and to changing the world one person at a time.

If you do a little digging, which is easier and easier to do online, you can find out all about the "gurus" and find plenty of blog posts, web pages and reports about the success or lack thereof that people have had from different products. Of course you'll probably find mixed reports on everyone who's ever put out a product, but if an overwhelming number of people seem to have a negative opinion of a person or product, that's one you'll want to shy away from.

If, on the other hand, you're finding a lot of people singing the praises of a particular writer or method, that might be something worth checking out. For instance many people have reported very positive results from reading and watching "The Secret" and following the methods outlined there to change their lives.

Not only can you read and study "The Secret," but you can also check out the works of people featured in the movie and the book such as Abraham and Esther Hicks and Joe Vitale. You can infer from liking the tone and message of "The Secret" that you will like their products and their message as well.

Likewise if you find some other book or website that you like, look at the people who have written blurbs for the book or offer testimonials for the product. They might have other products or ideas that you would find attractive.

The main thing you need to do when seeking self-help advice is not to just give a bunch of money to the first person you come to online with a snazzy sales page and a lot of big promises. Do your homework, ask people you know if they've used a product or read a particular book, and learn all you can about the guru in question before handing over any money.

In the end, choosing self-help materials does involve a bit of a gut feeling, but it should be a gut feeling backed up by a reasonable amount of research.

Principles of Receiving
The Principle of Receiving: What do you say when someone gives you a compliment? What does your body language communicate? More importantly how do you feel? America’s greatest humorist, Mark Twain, felt this way: “I have been complimented myself a great many times, and they always embarrass me " I always feel they have not said enough.” His wonderful joke touches upon our ambivalence about receiving. We simultaneously feel that we may not be worthy, and also that we actually want more. Many of us have blocks that hamper the natural act of receiving. The Principle of Receiving says, though, that we need to allow ourselves to be open to abundance of all kinds. Resisting compliments, or any other form of receiving, will block the flow of abundance into your life. How do you go about removing any blocks you may have? Start with a basic tool. This can be your service. You market this basic tool or service to others. By being open to receiving, you create profit. With consistency and time, this profit will turn into bigger profits, which can empower you to give an even bigger service if you choose. Therefore we are able to begin with service and end with a bigger service. The bridge from one to another is built by our ability to be open to receiving, and therefore to collect the profits we create. That is why you don’t ever want to say, “I don’t need that much money.” Why? Because with the financial abundance you create you would be able to assist and empower millions of others. Receiving financially is accelerated in two ways. The first is to be bold and ask. The second, if the answer turns out to be no, is to take absolutely no offense. This is the formula for production and success: to boldly ask for what we want in exchange for our services, and to never be so attached to the outcome that we can only live with an answer of yes. Conversely, to be afraid to ask, and to be attached to the outcome, is a sure formula for lack and struggle. Receiving is not only about our ability to receive money. It is also about our ability to receive love. Many people don’t allow others to become emotionally close because they are anticipating them eventually leaving. Subconsciously, they are afraid of being rejected, hurt, and feeling sad once again. To become open to receiving, we must trust that the journey will unfold as it should, and whether the outcome is positive or negative according to our perceptions and expectations along the way, we must still have gratitude for what is. The wonderful paradox in The Principle of Receiving is that our “attitude of gratitude” not only lessens the likelihood that we will suffer from fears of hurt and rejection, it also attracts positive outcomes.

Spin Your Circumstances To Your Favor
Rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. Here is how to be an optimist and win!

If you've placed second in a writing contest, did you jump for joy and push for better results the next time or did you get discouraged and accept second place as an excuse not to try again?

The joy of life is it is always filled with exciting choices. You may opt to have a pessimist's view and live a self-defeated life or you may decide to take the optimist's route and take on a challenging and fulfilling life.

So, why nurture an optimist's point of view? What is in it for you?

Well, optimism has been linked to positive mood and good morale; to academic, athletic, military, occupational and political success; to popularity; to good health and even to long life and freedom from stress.

On the other hand, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. Depression and pessimism affect middle-aged adults the same way they hit younger people. The mean age of onset of depression and pessimism has gone from 30 years of age down to 15 years of age! Depression is no longer a middle-aged housewife's disorder but also a teen-ager's disorder as well which leads to overall pessimism about life.

Here is how optimists beat the odds:

1. Optimists expect the best

The defining characteristic of pessimists is that they tend to expect bad events which will last a long time and undermine everything they do. They believe that bad events are their own fault.

Optimists are confronted with the same hard knocks of this world. What differs is the way they explain their misfortune---it's the opposite way. They tend to believe defeat is just a temporary setback, that its causes are confined to this one case.

2. Optimists tend to focus on and plan for the 'problem' at hand

They use 'positive reinterpretation.' In other words, they most likely reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow. Such people are unfazed by bad situation. They perceive it is a challenge and try harder.

They do not believe that "things will never get better," "If I failed once, it will happen again" and "If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, then it will happen in my whole life."

Positive expectancies of optimists also predict better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies and unlikely turn of events. If they fall, they will get up. They see opportunities instead of obstacles.

3. People respond positively to optimists because optimists seem to have more enjoyment in life.

4. Optimists are proactive and less dependent on others for their happiness.

5. Optimists find no need to control or manipulate people. They usually draw people towards them. Their optimistic view of the world can be contagious and influence those they are with.

6. Optimism is a socially desirable trait in all communities. Those who share optimism are generally accepted while those who spread gloom, panic and hysteria are generally avoided except by other pessimists.

7. In life, optimists often win elections; get voted most congenial and are sought for advice.

8. When the going gets tough, optimists get tougher.

Optimists typically maintain higher levels of subjective well-being during times of stress than do people who are less optimistic. In contrast, pessimists are likely to react to stressful events by denying that they exist or by avoiding dealing with problems. Pessimists are more likely to quit trying when difficulties arise.

9. Optimists persevere. They just don't give up easily, they are also known for their patience. Inching their way a step closer to that goal or elusive dream.

10. Optimists are healthier and live longer

Medical research has verified that simple pleasures and a positive outlook can cause a measurable increase in the body's ability to fight disease.

Optimists' health is unusually good. They age well and are much freer than most people from the usual physical ills of middle age. They tend to outlive those prone to negative thoughts.

Frederick Langbridge in "A Cluster of Quiet Thoughts" said: "Two men look out through the same bars: One sees the mud, and one sees the stars." Which one of these are you going to be from now on?

Why not look forward to success in all your endeavors? Why not be resilient? Sure, you will continue to hit lows sometimes but why just stay there and wallow in them? Why not be an example to inspire others to remove their dark-colored glasses and see the stars and not the mud?

You Can't Think Banana and Expect a Peach
You can't think on limitations and expect to be freed from them. The Law of Attraction will give you a reflection (experience) of your thoughts every time.

Neither the Universe nor the Law of Attraction can, or will, free you from any self-imprisonment. The free will given to you by Source/Spirit allows you to hold the key and ability to move your mind into or out of any self-imposed "prison" you place yourself into. The Law is only able to follow your orders. Your orders are your thoughts.

You can begin your path to freedom. You can become aware of how and how often you self-imprison. You can find what you need . . . your key . . . to choose the experience of life you desire, moment-by-moment.

Often, because we perceive lack in some area or areas of our life, when we hear or read anything about the Law of Attraction, especially from those who've created wealth in their lives, we focus on using the Law to get more "fish." Right use of the Law isn't about getting more fish; it's about becoming skilled at fishing.

Like attracts like.

If you want to attract more and better, you need to think more "better" thoughts. Einstein said, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it."

Use of the Law is not about getting what you want; it's about understanding why you get what you get, and understanding how to get what you really want . . . first, at the inner level then at the outer.

We don't make things happen (create/manifest), we open a channel through our thoughts, faith, and understanding of the Law so they may happen. They don't happen through concentration (strain). They happen through allowing (flow). The moment you feel yourself forcing anything, including your thought, you've gone off-center. You put the thought of your desire into a mental form, absolutely trust Divine Intelligence has the right answer or way, and you remain available to take inspired, appropriate action.

When we follow this manner of igniting a manifestation, it's important to hold the Truth of Spirit and how the Law works from an inner state of calm trust. Place a thought into the field and return to inner and outer struggle (especially inner), and you negate what you aim for as an outcome. Doubt and trust cannot occupy the same space at the same time.

1. Accept there is no separation between you and Spirit/Source.
2. Know the Law of Attraction will perform (match) according to your mental/feeling vibrations.
3. Trust Divine Intelligence of Spirit and accept it is in you and you are an expression of it. Trust its perfection.
4. Remain open to inspired information and ideas.
5. Choose faith and trust in Divine Intelligence . . . no matter what.
6. Take right action you feel inspired to take, not compelled to force. If what you desire in no way infringes on another and expands your experience, why shouldn't it happen . . . unless there is something even better you haven't imagined.
7. Allow what you desire to experience (or even better) to be yours. If an opposing thought or doubt enters your mind, say, "Cancel" or "Delete;" and superimpose the image and feeling of experiencing what you desire over such thoughts.

You cannot hold the thought of "banana," yet expect the peach you desire.

Think Positive! Set a Present Moment Agenda with Five Spiritual Steps
The past is important because we learn from it. The past helps us navigate through our current choices in order to evolve our soul. We’re in soul school from the minute we hit the ground until we cross over; it’s coursework made possible by the enriching and sometimes challenging conditions we have chosen. We chart a learning program well before we get here, which includes our parents, our gender, and circumstances that will provide us with the greatest opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. Where we get into trouble is giving up our freedom to make new choices based upon the present. Every day is new, no matter how you slice it. The sun comes up in spite of our mistakes or the despair we must face. But we are meant to continually move forward. Getting stuck in the past holds us behind, as prisoners within an incredible universe of opportunity. True empowerment stems from living now, not reacting to now from a mindset of the past or living with worry about what might happen tomorrow, next month, or next year. What can we do every day, no matter what has happened to in the past, to begin painting a positive life on a fresh, new canvas? Classify the Past The past is a collection of our emotions, experiences, and thought patterns as a result of living life. As adults, when we feel an emotion, it’s often based upon past experience. Life events trigger our emotional collection, and we interpret our current experiences through this lens. The problem is the value we take away from the past. When we allow only the good to shine through, we are able to live in the present. When we worry about the future, or agonize over the past, we are not fully engaged in life. The trick is to stay focused on your capabilities to address the present. View your past as a wonderful, robust course in life and stop agonizing over your mistakes or what someone said. Examine Emotional Carryover Changing a negative outlook takes a bit of discipline because you have to deeply resonate with the idea of what you want in the present moment, and accept it as already happening. When you attune to an idea, goal, or state of mind, you want to attract it now, not in the future. It takes a lot of self-reflection. Do some simple mental housecleaning to discover if what you are feeling now is being embroidered upon by the past. If you’re discouraged, shift your thinking to the “today” setting and stop dredging up all sorts of feelings from the last twenty years " about your parents, jobs that no longer matter, or even people who let you down. Release those people and circumstances and be free. If you carry so much heaviness, you’ll never get out from under water. The past is over. Do yourself a favor and lighten your load " buoyancy guaranteed! Be Inspired by Everyone Life has many meanings but often we’ve got the definition backwards. As an exchange with others, life isn’t all about taking it in. It’s mostly about what you give out. This I know to be true, based upon my observations of many people who are critically ill yet have fantastic attitudes about sharing themselves with others. If you visit a pediatric cancer ward, you will see children who are physically challenged beyond words but are still an inspiration to everyone around them. Despite their prognosis, their light shines bright with hope because they are living one day at a time. They seem illuminated and, thankfully, keep the rest of us going. Quite frankly, they are among the most inspirational people we have on earth, because they make everyone stop and think, “If life can be good despite those circumstances, then why am I holding myself back?” I believe part of their purpose is to give the rest of us a wake-up call to change our outlook. And if we find ourselves in the same boat, we too can keep everyone else going strong while we test our own abilities to stay in the present moment. Release Fear and Self-Doubt I think we are often fearful of believing we can have anything we want. When we look at the world, we see so much lack, unhappiness, war, starvation, pain, struggle, limitation. We begin to believe in it, and then we give those ideas power. With the number of people we see every day immersed in those conditions, it seems nearly impossible to trust that the normal human experience can be one of abundance, joy, peace, fulfillment, health, and ease. We’ve been told since childhood that “nothing’s perfect.” Nothing is worse than this type of programming, because we’re never going to realize our full human potential until we release our former ideas of what is possible. Life is a beautiful, perfect, glorious miracle. We choose our situations, our families, our painful experiences in order to evolve. As we observe the full range of everything from despair to triumph, we see the huge opportunity that exists to make change. Despair challenges our perception of what can be. With fear and self-doubt in our toolkit, our capability to produce change is diminished. In the big picture, life is perfect because it is giving us room to grow. A little bad weather makes us sturdier. We need the rain, and even a cold winter solidifies us, making us more receptive to spring. But, sure as anything, we are going to grow despite our circumstances. There should be no fear of growth. We should be proud of surviving, overcoming, beating the odds, not living in fear of more to come, and especially proud of not dragging ourselves down, together with those around us, with emotions like fear and self-doubt that do nothing but keep us in the dark. Consciously Create Your Day Over the years, I have experimented with ways to release the past and move forward, living life in the present moment. I’ve noticed that when I start my day without any clear direction of how I choose to think, I don’t get the results I want. I used to spend years regurgitating old problems. Without establishing my expectations of the universe as to how I desired my day to unfold, I discovered I would replay those same issues over and over again. So I began to make a supreme effort to move disappointments, loss, and feelings of non-success farther from my mind each day. Now, before I get up in the morning, I lie in bed for a few minutes and create my day by using a series of affirmative statements that are designed to do three things: they are positive, present-moment statements about what is, not what will be; they address some element of my life that needs improvement; and they get me to completely identify with the power within to manifest my circumstances. To manifest means to bring into our immediate experience, and make that which is created by the mind into a tangible or observable reality. The power is derived from spirit, or the Divine, which pervades every inch of the universe. To achieve this goal, I say my affirmative statements with love, grateful to be alive and to have my chosen learning opportunities. Then I focus on being open to positive change. I also visualize life being unfolded to me in creative ways and ask the universe to show me its perfection in ways I would not expect. I make a point of saying this because I think we can better understand the co-creative relationship we have with spirit when we release overly specific intentions and let the power of our own thoughts return to us in ways that give us feedback on our desires. When mentally creating my day in the morning, I’ve had new people walk off the street and become my employees because I saw a need in our organization. Abundance has arrived in the form of revenue streams I did not expect. When I see myself as a co-creator of the universe each day, I’ve attracted great results. Remember, when you release the past, consciously create your day, and have the mental discipline to think positive, you’ll see results. Through constant awareness (aligning with powerful and positive ideas) you’ll begin to see a difference. A big part of conscious awareness and living in the present moment is about being open to the feedback the environment is providing. Be open to positive change and deeply love life.
